TutTut...Looks Like Rain

Storms have been blowing through this region over the last week or so. Tornadoes, thunder storms, pouring rain. When it's not storming, the weather is JUST nice enough to roll your windows down and enjoy the post-rain breeze. Like spring has finally arrived, but is way more than fashionably late, and trying to share the spotlight with the incoming summer.
So, as I look at how this pertains to my life, I notice a similarity...only in reverse. I was just starting to enjoy the seemingly calm and lazy days of summer when the wind started to blow, warning me of the incoming storm in the horizon. The air smells of anger and regret, of all the things I would much prefer to forget. The things I "miss": mis-takes, missed opportunities, mis-steps, mis-direction, mis-spoken words and mis-guided intentions.

I know that I'm strong enough to weather the storm, just as I have so many times before. I just don't want to have to roll up my windows and break out the umbrella again. I also know that after the storm is over, however long it may rage, the air will be clean and sweet and the sun will shine again.

Brand New Words, Words That Rhyme

So hey!! I just wrote a new poem!! I haven't written any poetry in awhile. Actually, my writing in general has suffered some of late.   Well, anyway...
Today I wrote a new poem and I am tentatively calling it The Red House. Although it could also be called Rebuild. It's a little Dr. Seuss in it's format but...I still think it's a good one. Keep in mind that I JUST finished writing it, so I may have to tweak it later or whatever but for now, here is a first look at my newest writings.

The Red House

In the red house
with only four rooms
the owner knows not
of her impending doom.

Two rooms are upstairs,
and two rooms are down.
Two make her smile,
two make her frown.

The rooms full of smiles
aren't opened very much.
The locks get jammed,
the keys lost, and such.

The rooms with the frowns
won't seem to stay closed.
And she says to herself,
"I have GOT to work on those."

Then, one day a tree falls
on the two rooms of smiles.
Though she lives on a plain,
there are no trees for miles.

She looks at the mess,
She frowns and then,
She says to herself,
"I'll just rebuild them again."

So the new rooms have new doors and
locks and she's hoping
that maybe this time
she can keep them open.

But soon tragedy strikes
and the rooms fall down
and she wonders,
"Why not the rooms with frowns??"

Surveying the scene
from her place on the floor,
she decides, "I'll have to
build them once more."

So she sets to work
while staring from afar
are the rooms with frowns,
their doors ajar.

She tries to ignore them
but the corners of her mouth pull down;
there's just no denying the power
of the frowns.

But soon, once again,
the red house is whole,
though constant reconstruction
is taking its toll.

The paints don't match,
there's some materials reused
it's painfully obvious
this house has been abused.

But there's a new addition
to the smile rooms' doors.
She's installed doors with windows
why didn't she think of this before??

So now she can glimpse
at least a hint of a smile
(for when the frowns have her down
every once in awhile)

And so time goes by
with no incidents at all
and she thinks, "I built them strong,
they will not fall."

If only she knew how
wrong she could be,
because before long,
came tragedy number three.

It didn't come as a wind,
or freak accident of the land
this tragedy came
in the form of a man.

He came to her door
and looked so strong
"He can help me build,
nothing can go wrong."

She showed him around
her little four-roomed home
thinking,
"Now I won't have to do this alone."

He turned with a smile
and said "This is a nice spot.
I'll stay here with you,
I like it a lot."

And after a while, they both heard a 'click'
The smile doors swung open
and the whole house was lit!!

So the days went
so happy and calm
she didn't know the man
was a ticking time bomb.

Until the day came
when he looked in her face
and said with no sorrow
"I'm off to find a better place."

But before he left,
he had something to do
"I've got
a little present for you..."

And suddenly he had
a sledgehammer in hand
"No!! Please don't!!"
She begged of the man.

But he didn't listen,
he started to swing.
Then the house did
the strangest thing.

All the doors shut,
both upstairs and down:
the rooms of smiles
and the rooms of frowns.

He swung with all his might
and he wore a slight grin.
"Stop!! Please!!" she begged
again and again.

But he wouldn't stop,
he swung and he swung
until his hands were sore
and both ears rung.

Just before it crashed down,
the house gave a groan.
The man ran off
and left the woman alone.

As she knelt crying in the rubble
where she could have been killed
through her tears she said,
"I'll just have to rebuild."

So there you have it. My latest poem.
I have a challenge...this poem is actually a metaphor. It's symbolic all the way through. Can anyone tell me what it is?? What does the house represent?? What about the 2 rooms of smiles and the 2 rooms of frowns?? What does this all mean??
